Historical Flutes
French Ring Flutes

Ring flutes are a peculiarity (though not exclusive, see the german Poschl flute) of French conical-bore flutes made from the mid-19th century until the 1930s. The ring keys fit well into the small holes of conical flutes and allowed the use of fingertips instead of pads. The conical bore and small holes resulted in a particularly sweet sound.
