Isidor Thomas Lot (1832–1885) was the son of Thomas Guillaume Lot, the older brother of Louis Esprit Lot (the famous Louis Lot), who was therefore his uncle. Around 1850, Isidor opened his own workshop in La Couture-Boussey, a major center for the manufacture of musical instruments. Probably trained within the circle of his famous uncle, it appears that there were commercial ties between the two, as there is evidence of instruments being supplied from Isidor to Louis. Considering the extremely high quality of Louis Lot's instruments, we can more reasonably assume that Isidor's instruments were on par with those of Louis, who certainly would not have run the risk of discrediting himself by marketing flutes bearing his own brand but of inferior quality. The flute I am offering today (in Eb) indeed features beautiful workmanship, beautiful wood, and carefully crafted keys, with precise connections for the flute's various components. It is complete and no cracks. Unfortunately the flute has no case. The flute (tuned to 440) is 510 mm long, with a sounding length of 490 m; it weights 356 g. In the C position on normal flutes, it produces an Eb. It plays on old pads, it would benefit of a general, but not indispensable, overhauling. In this site I have other flutes by Isidor Lot (one five keys flute and a maillechort ring flute), see the latest photos.
