Couesnon was one of the largest French companies producing high-quality musical instruments in the late 19th century. The flute I'm presenting is a conical ring flute with a Boehm system, a highly appreciated solution for those who wanted to retain the warm, expressive voice of a wooden flute without sacrificing the ease of use of the Boehm system. This choice is also supported by many modern musicians who want to play 19th-century music without necessarily having to switch to the "old system." This flute has been completely disassembled and overhauled and is ready for use. The A is, as is customary for French instruments from the second half of the 19th century, at 435. Weight is 450 g. The flute is engraved "Exposition Universelle, Medaille d'Or, Couesnon, 2549." Unfortunately, the Exposition Universelle doesn't help with dating, as there were five between 1855 and 1900. It's more useful to know that the Couesnon name was used after 1882, and therefore, estimating a production of at least 200 flutes per year, the instrument can be dated to the late 1800s.
