Giuseppe Barlassina was the most distinguished of Milanese flutists. Active from the second half of the 19th century until his death in 1936, he built fine, handcrafted instruments in silver, nickel silver, and wood, using both the Boehm and Old System systems. He associated some models with important flutists such as Luigi Billoro (like this one), E. Saetti, A. Casoli, and others. Because of his artisanal production, Barlassina built a limited number of instruments, many of which are preserved in museums (the Musical Instrument Museum of Milan) and private collections.
