Not much is known about this maker, who was born in Adorf in 1825 and was active in Milan in the second half of the 19th century, that was at that time a major flute production center (Luvoni, Forni, Barlassina, Rampone, etc.). Schenstein presented one of his flutes at the 1881 Milan Exhibition. The flute I present, one of the few still in circulation, is a carefully crafted instrument designed to compete with prestigious and long-established brands. It is a classic thirteen-key flute of Viennese inspiration, constructed of ebony and ivory. It features metal-covered holes and characteristic roller-shaped keys on C-C sharp. The stopper is finely engraved. The flute is complete and in excellent condition, but requires replacement of the A 440 pads; it weighs 607 g.
