Not much is known about the flute production of Henry Pihan (1869-1946), he was working as a worker in the Schoenaers company (formerly Millerau) when he received a silver medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. In 1924 a workshop was registered at his name and in 1932 Pihan presented imself as "Manifacture d'instruments de musique in Quai Saint Vincent in Lyon. I have had in my hands several flutes by Pihan which I find to be made with great care, all obviously hand-built starting from the soldered sheet. It is difficult to date the instrument I present to you today, I estimate it dates back to the 1920s. A strange thing about this flute is that it is branded on the headjoint and on the body but in an inverted position, that is, on the back of the instrument, see photo. The instrument is made in maillechort, it measures 685 mm. The sounding length is 605 mm. A 440, weight 400 g. Period case in fair condition.
