Djalma Julliot (1858-1921) was a flute maker working in La Couture Boussey (a town focused on the production of musical instruments) where he opened his workshop in 1894 after having trained with several makers. He soon acquired a certain fame which earned him the opportunity to collaborate on the improvement of the flute with P. Gaubert, P. Taffanel and F. Borne who helped him to perfect the mechanism which led to the creation of the Borne-Julliot system. In 1911 he sold the workshop to Clement Masson who continued the Djalma Julliot brand until the 1950s. Djalma Julliot flutes are always marked on the headstock, body and foot and bear the year of production (in this case 1922) and the serial number (1857). The flute I present today is a beautiful example in excellent condition, correct markings, original case marked Clement Masson. It weighs 387 g and is tuned, strangely, to A 435. The flute, although in good mechanical condition, needs a general overhaul.
