Claude Rive, Paris

Claude Rive (1833-1895) is one of the greatest flute makers of 19th-century Paris. Each of his flutes is a work of art due to the attention to detail. He trained in the workshop of V. H. Godfroy, which explains his effort to create wonderful instruments. In 1877 he opened his own workshop but unfortunately his activity ended with his death in 1895 at the age of 62. It is estimated that Rive produced no more than 200 instruments. His business was taken over by Alexandre Robert who continued it producing flutes that were not of the excellent quality of Rive's. This small, exquisitely crafted instrument is in excellent condition, the action is in good order, the wood is a beautiful rosewood that has a small crack already well repaired in the past. The instrument weighs 146 g and is tuned to A 440. Please ask for more pictures or info.
