This Hawkes & Son flute was one of the attempts to partially retain the old system fingering on a conical chamber and achieve a greater sound thanks to the large holes. The flute is made using excellent wood and has beautiful silver-plated action. The writing on the headstock and foot reads: Hawkes & Son makers London 9698. While on the headstock: excelsior sonorous class Hawkes & Son makers London 9698.This example is in excellent condition, but the infill needs to be repaired.
